Top Sales Operations Manager Salary Trends in 2023

The Betts Team
February 5, 2023

Salary trends for sales operations managers in tech are generally following along with those of others in the industry for 2023. Base rates for sales ops professionals either have slowed down or frozen in place as many companies reevaluate their hiring focus, though with technology companies still understaffed overall we expect this to reverse again by the end of the year. For more background, check out our updated 2023 Compensation Guide here.

In this article, we will explore the current state of the sales operations manager salary landscape and provide insights into what you can expect in 2023.

What is a Sales Operations Manager?

Sales operations managers are responsible for overseeing the day-to-day sales activities of a company. They work closely with team members such as AEs and SDRs to optimize sales processes and strategies, analyze sales data to identify trends, and implement operational best practices. The role requires a combination of technical and interpersonal skills, as well as a deep understanding of the sales process and customer behavior.

Sales Operations Manager Salary in 2023

Compensation trends for sales operations managers have varied historically based on different factors, including industry and sub-sector, company size, and sometimes even location. However, we saw that in this past year rates between parts of the US evened out – only sales ops roles in the tech hubs of New York and San Francisco saw a bigger earnings potential. Entry-level sales ops managers in these cities started at an average base salary range of $90,000 – $140,000 while in most other time zones this was capped at $130,000

In general, sales operations managers in the tech industry still tend to earn higher salaries than those in other areas, depending on where they are in the market. For example, SAAS companies have historically featured more competitive compensation packages to ensure they are able to attract and retain top talent.

Experience also played a major role in determining final rates. More experienced sales ops managers could earn $120,000 – $180,000 on average in most time zones, while those in New York and San Francisco go up to $200,000 per hire.

Other Sales Ops Compensation Trends for 2023

The salary trends for sales operations managers in 2023 are expected to remain stagnant for the most of the rest of the year. However, there are a few factors that could impact this, including the overall state of the economy and the availability of top talent.

One trend to watch in 2023 is the increasing demand for sales ops professionals with experience in technology and data analysis. As technology continues to play a bigger role in the sales process, managers who are well-versed in analytics will be in higher demand.

Another trend to watch in 2023 is the use of hiring platforms. Many companies are turning to hiring platforms to streamline their recruitment process and find top talent more efficiently. This trend is likely to increase in 2023 as more companies adopt digital transformation strategies to improve their operations and reduce costs.

The Future of Sales Operations Managers Salaries

Just like with other go-to-market (GTM) positions in tech, the salary trends for sales operations have slowed down in 2023 and will most likely remain unchanged until later in the year. By then, we predict that the high compensation growth will resume as SAAS companies begin hiring again and compete for a very limited candidate pool, meaning that employers will need to increase the amount they offer if they wait until after that point.
